Rules for Sponsors

The rules for local radio station sponsorship announcements are outlined in the Broadcasting Services Act 1992 (the Act).

Under the Act, local radio stations can broadcast sponsorship announcements for up to five minutes in any hour.

There is no limit on the number of sponsorship announcements that may be broadcast in each hour, as long as their combined duration does not exceed the permitted number of minutes in any hour of broadcasting.

Sponsorship "Tags"

All sponsorship announcements must include a sponsorship "tag" to acknowledge the financial support from the sponsor.

A sponsorship tag must include the name of the person or organisation that has given support to the radio station or the program.

Tag Placement

Tags can be placed in any part of a sponsorship announcement, provided it is clear to listeners that the information broadcast is a sponsorship announcement.
